Wise Words by Ole

I am Ole ... or at least that's what my friends call me! I am a writer at heart and would like to think of myself as a modern day philosopher (aka. bullshit artist, pardon my french!). Corny, I know, but I intend to blog "Wise Words" (aka. Words of Wisdom) and am happy for all to read, enjoy, ponder, and maybe laugh too!!! ;) Your comments (hopefully constructive!) are welcome too! :)

The $12,000 handbag

Recently I met a girl who owns a Louis Vuitton handbag worth AU$12,000!!!

Now she didn't come right out and tell me that, but she had this handbag with her (at a BBQ nonetheless!!!), and was asking for it to be passed to her from it's present location on a chair ... she said "be careful it's an expensive bag" ... little did I know just how expensive!

So speaking to the friend I met this girl through I discovered the bag was actually worth $12,000, and was shocked, perhaps horrified, to say the least! ... Personally, I wouldn't spend that much on a Plasma TV, yet here was this girl carrying a $12,000 handbag!

Ok, I'll admit I can't get over, I don't understand, and I'm not sure I ever will - no handbag, I repeat no handbag, is worth that kind of money, it's just wrong! ... so I'm dying to find out why she has it now, and most importantly how she acquired it ... I'm hoping she didn't purchase it with her own money, but you never know!

Girls and their hair!

Ok, so we've all heard the saying "the grass is always greener on the other side", I personally think it's very true! My favourite reference case is 'Girls and their hair', as every girl that I know falls into this pattern. You see I don't know a single girl (well, one that's old enough anyway) that hasn't tried their hair the other way. I mean most girls I know who have straight hair curl it, and most girl I know that have curly/wavey hair straighten it! Hence, they believe the grass is greener on the other side, when in fact it probably isn't. My current case in point is a friend of mine, whom I saw for the first time without her hair straightened ... IMHO her hair was perfect, natural, and I had never seen it better ... of course I told her so, and she was greatful for the complement, but sadly has plans to go on straightening her hair in the future. A real shame in my opinion ... but I guess everyone is entitled to teir own "grass is greener" opinion.

So are there any girls out there who aren't madly converting their hair to the "greener" side ???

Can you fall out of Love?

Well, everyone knows you can fall in love, but what about falling out of it? I mean, can you? ... or do you never stop being in love with someone?

Personally, I believe you never do fall out of love. Sure, you might change the way you think about it, and maybe even let yourself forget about that person. But who out there, who's been in love, can say they haven't had that person come back into their lives or even just heard about them again, and then felt something that they didn't think they had any more??? ... I believe love is forever, and if you truely love someone, you will for life ... what you do about that love is up to you! ... You can be consumed by it, or you can forget about it ... but I don't believe the love ever goes away.

Love is eternal.

Trees are green, aren't they?

Ok, trees are green right? So is a tree green when you're not looking at it???

I guess the point is that trees are only green through the perception of human eyes. If no human eyes are looking at the leaves, what colour are they really? I guess I could get into a whole physics explaination here, but I'll spare you the details. I guess my point is what is green? or what is any colour for that matter? ... what if we were all blind, colour would have no relevance, we probably wouldn't even have a word for it, or maybe we would philosophise about objects having different colours?

The whole world to humanbeings is a human perception of the world around us. Scientist may try to describe things in a finite sense, but at the end of the day, they are human too and there judgement is based on their senses of sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. I'd say our perceptions of things would change if aliens rocked up one day with a sixth sense that we had never considered, maybe something like an aura that all objects have ... maybe we'd then be worried about what our aura looks like ... yep, we're a superficial society, waiting for aliens to point out more things we can be superficial about.

So think about it, what colour is the world around you ... yep, it's human coloured, every part of it is! ;)

Which is/was the most dangerous country in the world???

Now ask yourself this question, which is/was the most dangerous country in the world?

Iraq under Saddam, Afghanistan under the Taliban, really I think not ... which is the country that has blattently led attacks on other countries, without UN approval, and has not only the capability, but the ignorance and stupidity to do it all over again, you guessed it, the good ol' US of A, under one George W. Bush ... where the W stands for anything you want it to, except wise!

Yes, this is the country we should all fear, enemies and allies of it alike, remember Iraq was an ally in the past... America just changed it's mind again at some point.

Anyway, without getting too political, I think we should all take a third person perspective for a moment, and rather than think US and them, think who is really doing good, who is really making peace, and who is starting the wars ... maybe it is US, of course we couldn't do it without them ... but maybe just think a little.

What is certain?

Is it certain that the Sun will rise tomorrow... well we could say yes, but then again we can't be certain. Many would disagree, but who could ever prove this to be true... just because it always has, doesn't mean it will again!

Today is a glorious sunny day ... time to go enjoy it! :)

Ok, so I've started blogging some "Wise Words" and I'd love to hear some comments ... anything really, from anyone really ... I haven't told any of my friends about this site (yet!) ... so I'm lookin' to hear from you random people that may stumble across my blog and hopefully read and enjoy the stuff I write ... spread the word maybe even! ;)

What I'm trying to do is keep everything I write original ... anything that's not I will attempt to "quote" very specifically, and will be adding my own spin to, or else why put it here, right?

Anywayz, thanks for reading and lemme know what you think!

The Stolen Generations: The stealing continues...

Between 1910 and 1970 up to 100,000 Aboriginal children were robbed of rights and from growing up with the freedom of choice. Today, the way Aboriginal children are treated has changed, but what about in other cultures? ...

India 2004 AD, with a thriving population of over a billion people, the country has a long and deeply root sense of social justice, that puts it way back in the middle ages. Children grow up taught to do what their parents want, not for their best interests, but for the maintainence of some wildly skewed social expectations. Arranged marriage is still a part of everyday life, and although there are those that would argue for it, presenting some undeniable pros, there are some really frightening cons that are largely over looked. Arranged marriage by consent is one thing, but what about under duress, which is all too common, particularly when a child has had the opportunity to travel overseas, or even live overseas, and has seen that there is more to life than meets the eye? ... Many are subjected to emotional blackmail and one way or another are convinced to throw away the ideas that they have discovered for themselves, only to be dragged back into the cycle of the Indian caste system.

Worn Shoes, a good old friend?

A pair of worn shoes is like a good old friend,
although they've caused you pain in the past,
they've travelled the long hard road with you,
and they'd be your first choice for the long road ahead!

That doesn't mean you won't turn around one day and throw them out! ;)
